When our own team at Strategy Arts set out to develop our Strategic Leadership Program (SLP), our two most important goals were to help leadership teams improve their effectiveness and to help individual leaders enjoy a more rewarding leadership experience. We’ve assembled the top leadership development tools from our affiliates with our own collaborative process approach to create high-energy programs that build strategic leadership into the structure of an organization.
Each client-specific program combines three core elements: Individual Leadership, Team Performance, and Organizational Leadership. Strategy Arts incorporates these elements in a highly interactive approach to help leadership teams develop the skills and working agreements they need to lead today’s dynamic organizations.
Individual Leadership
Self-Knowledge
If knowledge is power, self-knowledge gives us the power to become more self-aware and better leaders. Strategy Arts uses the Center for Creative Leadership’s (CCL’s) Assessment Suite and the DiSC Behavioral Style Assessment to provide leaders with the reliable tools and information they need to develop their leadership abilities.
Assessment Tools
CCL 360° assessment tools such as Benchmarks® and Executive Dimensions® offer leaders insight into their abilities and how they are perceived. Benchmarks uses feedback collected from peers, subordinates, superiors, and other stakeholders to rate leaders in 16 categories of leadership abilities. It also rates leaders in five key “derailment factors” that identify common problems known to stall executive careers.
CCL’s secure online Internet Assessment System administers and tracks data collection, ensuring the validity of the all the information collected. A very important aspect of the CCL tools is guaranteed anonymity of input from peers and subordinates, which ensures accurate and unbiased feedback.
Facilitated Review
Strategy Arts provides direct one-on-one facilitated review of the assessment results. Our feedback facilitators are themselves CCL-certified, experienced business leaders who help leaders understand their feedback results and create plans to develop the skills most important to their leadership success. We provide perspectives on available options for on-the-job development and insight into how to engage colleagues in support of development. All feedback results remain the property of the recipient and are strictly confidential.
DiSC® Behavioral Assessment
We also use DiSC® Behavioral Style Assessment to help better understand a leader’s natural work behavioral preferences and the impact they have on others. Our facilitators help to interpret the report and provide insight as so how these preferences play a part in a person’s leadership style. We use DiSC® to identify targeted strategies for enhanced leadership effectiveness through more effective communication and conflict management.
Team Performance
Diagnosing Team Performance
The effectiveness of any leadership team is in its teamwork. Demonstrable high-performance teamwork among leaders also establishes a high-performance culture for teams across an organization. We help leadership teams diagnose their own team performance, develop agreements to drive improvements, and give them experience in tools they can use throughout their organizations.
Drexler/Sibbet Team Performance Model
Maintaining a high-performing leadership team requires constant vigilance. We use the Drexler/Sibbet Team Performance Model from our partners The Grove Consultants International to help leadership teams assess and improve their team performance. This widely used model looks at team performance across seven groups of predictable issues that teams must recognize and master to become a high-performing team. See illustration below.
Team Culture
Strategy Arts also uses the DiSC Team Culture Report to gain insight into the team’s current culture based on each team member’s work and communication styles. This report empowers the team to have meaningful discussions and develop strategies for improving their own team culture which, consequently, has a significant impact throughout the entire organization’s culture.
Organizational Leadership
Maximizing Your Leadership Team
Leading today’s dynamic organizations requires an approach to leadership that not only empowers teams but also offers an environment of support and guidance that ensures the organization’s success and keeps the organization working together. Clarity and consistency of approach across a leadership team provide a unified message of expectations for how work gets done in the organization.
We help leadership teams discuss and agree on the important aspects of leadership for their organization and create a specific, shared model of leadership for their organization. Then, together with the leadership team, we create plans that will make those leadership agreements an integral part of their culture.
Leadership Development Workshops
Leadership Development Journey
Leaders at all levels of an organization are on a continual leadership development journey. Strategy Arts offers workshops that can be customized to meet an organization’s specific leadership development needs. These workshops include presentations of the latest in leadership theory and practices, as well as interactive exercises that explore, share, and
discuss the skills, experiences, and learning of fellow leaders. Along with large- and small-group class sessions, a more comprehensive program can include multi-rater feedback assessment and individual coaching sessions. Participants use the multi-rater feedback to compare their own assessment with an average score of six co-workers. The confidential coaching sessions provide a space for the participants to review and understand their feedback report, as well as to work through specific simulations in which participants apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios.
Workshop Topics Include:
• Emotional Intelligence: The Balanced Approach
• Communication: The Critical Leadership Skill
• Empowerment: The Impact of Structure & Accountability
• Building a Team: Finding and Keeping Good Performers
• Leading Collaborative Problem-Solving
• Leading Conflict Resolution
• Leading Change
A Diverse Approach
The mix of classroom sessions, feedback report and coaching sessions gives leaders the structure and support they need to acknowledge and grow their leadership styles. Moreover, they will enhance the skills that not only raise their own productivity, but also the productivity of all whom they lead, thus increasing the capacity of the organization to achieve its mission.
